Every business manager has to handle a business by putting his skills to
use. Not all the managers are successful in leading the business, many managers
fail to bring success to the business. It is often said that managers who want
to bring the business to success should follow the path of emotional
intelligence. This basically means recognizing not just your emotions but the
emotions of people around you as well.

This component is concerned with a person’s ability to manage relationships
with others. Social skills may be viewed as friendliness for something in
return. Moving people in the direction you desire, whether that's agreement on
a new marketing strategy or enthusiasm about a new product. Socially skilled
people have a wide circle of acquaintances and know how to build rapport with
associates.
Self-regulation frees us from getting too much influenced by our feelings.
Self-regulated people find ways to control their emotions and even channel them
in useful ways. People who are in control of their feelings and impulses are
able to create an environment of trust and fairness. Once they have mastered
their emotions, they are in a better position to bring about and implement
change in an organization.
Compassion means thoughtfully considering an employee’s feelings, along
with other factors, in the process, of making intelligent decisions. It enables
managers to sense and understand the viewpoints of everyone around the table.
Empathy or compassion plays a key role in retaining talent. Human capital is
particularly important in today's competitive world because it can give a
decisive edge to a firm over its rivals in the industry.
People with leadership potential are often driven by a strong sense of
achievement. Instead of being focused on external factors such as money only,
they seek out creative challenges, have a love for learning and take pride in a
job well done. Also, motivated people have a high level of energy to do things
better as well as restlessness with the status quo. They are eager to explore
new approaches to their work.
